Working with Image Objects

The Image Tool and the Vector Image Tool can be used to add images to TheView. The Image Tool adds pixel-based images. Supported file formats include jpeg (.jpg), bitmap (.bmp, .dib), and icon (.ico). The Vector Image Tool adds vector-based images. Supported file formats include Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg), Windows Metafile (.wmf, .emf), and AutoCAD (.dxf, .dwg, .dwf).

If you are creating resizable screens, the Vector Tool is recommended.

An image object can be static or it can be dynamic. A dynamic image object is associated with a point, and it can show different images for the point’s various alarm states or bit states. The images for an image object, whether static or dynamic, are specified by the [Image] property.

When adding an image object to TheView, always add a default image, even if the object is going to be dynamic, so that the only image shown in the Edit mode is the default image. You can use the default image to size the object and to line up other objects. In addition, when using a dynamic image you may not want to assign each alarm state/bit state a unique image. If the point is in one of the unassigned states, the default image will be shown in Run mode. For example, you use a Image Tool to add a pump to TheView and associate the object with a pump status point. You assign a cyan pump as the default, a green pump to the "Normal" state, and a red pump to the “Alarm State.” In Run mode, if the pump is running the green pump is shown. However, if the pump status is "Unreliable" the cyan pump will be shown since no image has been associated with the "Unreliable" state.

The Layout property of an image object determines the image position in the object’s boundaries. Options are Left, Right, Center, Stretch, and Size to Fit. To resize the boundary to the size of the image, set the property to Size to Fit. This will resize the object’s boundary to the images original, full proportion. To be able to resize the object and its image, set the property to Stretch. To maintain the aspect ratio of the image while resizing it hold the Shift key while dragging one of the object’s handles.

To use animated objects on TheView such as Adobe Flash objects, you must add the container for the object using an ActiveX control.
